A safety inspection is an on-site walk through to identify potential hazards to occupants and personnel and options for corrective actions. An annual safety inspection of each building on campus is conducted as part of the Safety Committee, for insurance purposes. However, everyone is responsible for identifying and reporting safety issues in their work areas.
EHS uses a standard building safety inspection checklist and documents the findings of each inspection in a report. After completion of a safety inspection, the responsible area supervisor, building coordinator, campus facilities maintenance and/or appropriate personnel is contacted to initiate corrective actions. Promptly correcting identified hazards can prevent future incidents, injury/illness, or property/equipment damage.
Each month, the results of the building safety inspections are discussed with the safety committee.
