Your most important role in a critical incident is to share information and resources with your colleagues and friends. Work together, listen for and follow official instructions, get the information you need to be safe, and stay safe.

In addition, you should:

  • Be sure your emergency contact information is up-to-date in Banner so that you will receive Leopard Alerts.
  • Familiarize yourselves with emergency procedures.
  • Be prepared to assess situations quickly but thoroughly, and use common sense in determining a course of action.
  • Evacuate buildings (except when otherwise instructed) in an orderly manner when an alarm sounds or when directed to do so by emergency personnel.
  • Report fires and other emergencies immediately to Public Safety and the proper authorities.
  • The Department of Public Safety Programs provide training and information to help students know what to do in emergencies and how they can be prepared ahead of time.
  • Residential students should pay particular attention to instructions and directions provided by their Resident Adviser.
  • All members of the Lafayette community should carry their Identification Card with them at all times.
