Lafayette College uses the Lafayette Leopard Alerts Service to quickly notify students, employees, and registered parents and neighbors in the event of an emergency on or close to campus, or a weather-related emergency.

Alerts can be sent through several multiple communications channels, including email and text alerts.

To receive text alerts, your mobile phone/device must be able to receive text messages, and your service plan must support receiving them. If you are unsure, please check with your service provider.

 

Faculty, staff, and students:

Alerts depend on your cellphone number in Banner. After adding a number, you’ll get a subscription notification.

To add your cell number, staff, faculty, and students can follow these steps:

  • Visit  https://selfservice.lafayette.edu/
  • Click on the “Personal Information” link.
  • Add a cellphone number – click on the “Add New” link and select phone type (cell phone) and enter the area code and phone number, then click “Add.”

Parents and families, contract staff, and community members

  • Create an account.
  • Choose a username and password and complete the sign-up form.
  • Under “Optional Groups,” check one box to identify yourself as a parent.
  • Select the “Opt-out By” of your choice.
  • Your phone will receive a text message with a 4-digit number. Enter this number on the confirmation page. After completing this step, your registration will become active immediately.
Note: If you’ve registered for Leopard Alerts prior to Aug. 1, 2023, you’ll need to re-enroll.

Who can get Lafayette Leopard Alerts?

How do I sign up for Lafayette Leopard Alerts?

How many Lafayette Leopard Alerts will I receive?

Use of the system is reserved for crisis situations that involve imminent danger or events that impact a significant portion of the campus population. When the system is used, an alert will be sent to those who have registered. These situations should be very infrequent. You will receive messages within seconds of their transmission. If your cellphone is turned off when a text message is sent, you will receive it after you turn your cellphone on, but only if you do so within seven days of the original transmission.

What will a Lafayette Leopard Alerts tell me?

A short text message will describe the situation and indicate suggested action. The message will be brief and will provide further instructions or information.

What do I need to get Lafayette Leopard Alerts and how much does it cost?

To receive text alerts, your mobile phone/device must be able to receive text messages, and your service plan must support receiving them. If you are unsure, please check with your service provider.
