Safety Committee Minutes – December 14, 2022

The Committee met via Google Meet, with several members attending in person. The committee reviewed and discussed updates to existing business, and there were no substantial changes to the status.

No injuries were reported. Four buildings were inspected and the committee discussed the safety concerns identified.

Old business discussed by the committee included an update that Easton Parking will increase enforcement in the area of McCartney/Clinton to prevent vehicles from parking too close to the corner. Officers were coached on access locations within Kirby Sports Center for future calls.

11/9/22

Safety Committee Minutes – November 9, 2022

The Committee met via Google Meet, with several members attending in person. The committee reviewed and discussed updates to existing business. Facilities ops has secured funding and the project to upgrade the fire panel in APK is tentatively scheduled to begin on December 26th. Per Jeff Troxell, Public Safety will not carry glucose tubes in their first aid kits for responding to diabetic emergencies.

Three injuries were reported and the committee discussed the circumstances of the injuries and potential prevention measures. Seven buildings were inspected and the committee discussed the safety concerns identified.

New business discussed by the committee included a concern regarding Public Safety’s response to a student injury at Kirby Sports Center on November 2.

Safety Committee Minutes – October 12, 2022

The Committee met via Google Meet, with several members attending in person. The committee reviewed and discussed updates to existing business. Facilities ops will secure funding to move forward with the upgrades needed for the fire alarm system in APK. The committee collectively agreed to make a recommendation that Public Safety should carry glucose tubes in their first aid kits for responding to diabetic emergencies.

Three injuries were reported and the committee discussed the circumstances of the injuries and potential prevention measures. Four buildings were inspected and the committee discussed the safety concerns identified.

New business discussed by the committee included an update on the status of the pole vault pit storage and a concern regarding parking at the corner of McCartney Street and Clinton Terrace.

Safety Committee Minutes – July 14, 2022

The Committee met via Google Meet, with several members attending in person. The committee reviewed and discussed updates to existing business. Johnson Controls evaluated the fire alarm system in APK and provided a proposal for necessary upgrades and adjustments.

Five injuries were reported and the committee discussed the circumstances of the injuries and potential prevention measures for future incidents. Four buildings were inspected and safety concerns were discussed.

New business discussed by the committee included follow ups to the visitor slip/trip/fall incidents.

Safety Committee Minutes – June 8, 2022

The Committee met via Google Meet, with some members attending in person. The committee reviewed and discussed the results of the fire drill conducted in APK on May 31. Several deficiencies were identified and adjustments/further testing of the system are being scheduled with the contractor.

Three injuries were reported and the committee discussed the circumstances of the injuries and potential prevention measures for future incidents. Fifteen buildings were inspected and no safety concerns were identified.

The committee reviewed an additional slip/trip/fall incident involving a visitor to campus. Ryan Snyder provided a summary of a recent meeting with Travelers Risk Control consultant regarding recent trends in injuries.

Safety Committee Minutes – May 11, 2022

The Committee met via Google Meet, with several members attending in person. The committee reviewed and discussed updates to existing business. The review/development of the Master Service Agreement item is considered complete. The bike rack for Kirby Sports Center has been installed. An investigation to the fire alarm response for APK was conducted and a fire drill is planned for May 31.

Five injuries were reported and the committee discussed the circumstances of the injuries and potential prevention measures for future incidents. Five buildings were inspected and safety concerns were discussed.

New business discussed by the committee included concerns pertaining to students and campus visitors who were involved in slip/trip/fall accidents.

Safety Committee Minutes – April 13, 2022

The Committee met via Google Meet, with several members attending in person. The committee reviewed and discussed updates to existing business. The review/development of the Master Service Agreement item is considered complete. The bike rack for Kirby Sports Center has been approved and will be installed after completion of façade renovations to the building.

Two injuries were reported and the committee discussed the circumstances of the injuries and potential prevention measures for future incidents. Four buildings were inspected and safety concerns were discussed.

New business discussed by the committee included concerns pertaining to the fire alarm system in APK and the swings installed on trees around campus associated with Earth Day celebrations.

The committee reviewed and discussed the Master Service Agreement, particularly the safety requirements, and will provide comments to the purchasing department.  There was no update to existing business item, (2) adding a bike rack to the Pierce St. entrance to Kirby Sports Center.

Two injuries were reported and the committee discussed the circumstances of the injuries and potential prevention measures for future incidents. One building was inspected and no safety concerns were identified.

The committee reviewed and discussed 2021 injury data.

The Committee met via Google Meet. There were no updates to existing business items: (1) development of policy and procedures for building access to contractors, (2) evaluating drainage at Leopard Deck causing slippery conditions for pedestrians at the southeast entrance, and added a new item to the recommendation list (3) adding a bike rack to the Pierce St. entrance to Kirby Sports Center.

Three injuries were reported and the committee discussed the circumstances of the injuries and potential prevention measures for future incidents. Six buildings were inspected and no safety concerns were identified.

The committee discussed following up on the Shoes for Crews and snow/ice cleats for Facilities Ops employees. Facilities Ops has contracted with a service to provide new safety shoes to employees.
