Safety Committee Meeting – February 8, 2023

The Committee met via Google Meet, with several members attending in person. The committee reviewed and discussed existing business: workshop and storage activities within the basement of 421 Hamilton Street. Facilities leadership is evaluating the space and the intended usage and will determine whether it is an approved space according to code requirements.

No injuries were reported and no buildings were inspected.

Old business discussed by the committee included continued parking concerns around McCartney and Clinton and the potential usage of glucose tubes during first aid response to diabetic emergencies. New business brought to the committee included occupancy concerns during 100 Nights event, rainfall drainage at new Markle Deck and how to make use of excess pandemic supplies.

Safety Committee Meeting – January 11, 2023

The Committee met via Google Meet, with several members attending in person. The committee reviewed and discussed closing out existing business: fire alarm system in APK. The new fire system panel for the building was installed over break, including new strobe lights and speakers in Rooms 137/138. The message was simplified and programmed to repeat until the alarm is cleared.

Two injuries were reported and the committee discussed the circumstances of the injuries and potential prevention measures. Five buildings were inspected and the committee discussed the safety concerns identified.

New business discussed by the committee included concerns over a makeshift workshop and storage within the basement of 421 Hamilton Street. An update was also provided regarding snow and ice – all facilities operations employees were provided with shoe cleats. Additional information was requested by Ryan Snyder regarding the glucose tubes and first aid responses to diabetic emergencies.
